Apple Cheddar Pizza with Caramelized Onions And Walnuts
directions

Makes 1 - 12?" Pizza

1 tbsp. olive oil
1 large yellow or sweet onion, thinly sliced
salt + pepper to taste
1 tbsp. butter
1 apple, cored and thinly sliced (Honeycrisp, Braeburn or Fuji)
1 tbsp. maple syrup
1 Scordato’s fresh pizza dough
1 cup shredded Sendik’s Mild or Aged cheddar cheese
2 tbsp. chopped walnuts

directions

1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, and turn heat down to low. Cook until onions become caramelized, stirring every few minutes or so at first and then, as the onions begin to brown, more frequently. Once your onions are caramelized, season with salt and pepper and remove from heat. (Low and slow is the trick to perfect caramelized onions).

2. Preheat oven to 375°.

3. Wipe skillet clean; add butter and melt over medium heat. Once butter has melted, add apple slices and sauté for about 10 minutes, or until softened, stirring frequently. Stir in maple syrup and continue cooking until liquid has evaporated. Remove from heat.

4. Place pizza dough on pizza pan or stone and spread into round shape. Tip: put a tiny bit of olive oil on your hands so it doesn’t stick to you. Place into oven for 5 minutes until par-baked. Remove from oven.

5. Top par-baked pizza crust with apples, caramelized onions, shredded cheese and walnuts. Bake for approximately 10 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
